In addition to the numerous publications in internationally refereed academic journals, Alexander Cuthbert has recently completed the second of a three volume publication titled The Form of Cities, Political Economy and Urban Design (2006) . The first volume, Designing Cities: Critical Readings in Urban Design (2003) , set in place a withering critique of urban design theory over the last fifty years, and formulated a new theoretical paradigm grounded in social and political science. Building on this foundation, The Form of Cities (2006) elaborates in detail, an entirely new understanding of urban design based in political economy. The third volume, currently being developed, will serve as a practical guide to the application of urban design as a tool of political economy.
